sideshows!

One of the most infamous events in Oakland is the “sideshow.” These events are mostly hosted at midnight on Oakland’s big intersections. What occurs during these events are dangerous stunts. Participants drive side to side down the street as if to create a slow motion technique to make their cars shine and look the best. They open doors and act crazy. Cars begin to swing their rear parts. With a loud screech of the tires and a loud roar of their engines, the car spins in circles. The loud sound of the speakers kick and tremble the trunk, and this makes the crowd go wild.
People from all kinds of races attend sideshows. With no discrimination in gender or race, we live in complete harmony. Most sideshows usually end peacefully – unless some teenagers decide to behave inappropriately and a fight breaks out … but that could occur anywhere. What is truly wonderful is to see how united we can become in Oakland because of our love for the sideshow
Recently, I heard news that sideshows could become legal in Oakland – that’s what the new police chief, Anthony Batts, apparently wants. In my opinion, if you can’t beat us, join us. The police should only secure the sideshows for illegal weapons though. That’s the only thing the law should get involved with. Otherwise, they should just let the beauty of the scene take place. Too much law will increase violence because people will resent the police being there. Having just enough police to patrol for illegal weapons and transportation of narcotics would make it better and safer and nothing would change for the stunts performed by trained professionals.
