The Murial on Bancroft and 47th

I was in East Oakland, Bancroft and 47th and saw a team of muralist getting ready to work. I talked to one of the young men, Daniel who explained on behalf of a man who was standing by, Mr. Ricardo Cortez, who wore a knit cross that the project was a memorial to Mr. Ricardo's son Ricardo Alejandro Cortez Alvarez who was slain because some gang members thought he was their target. They had a book of his paintings and were making copies of his work as the mural. The day ended and I stopped by to see how the mural had progressed. It was a nice representation but a deep sadness fell upon my heart when I read "In Loving Memory".
