About Me
The Mission of First Voice Media is to engage in media activism through community development and creative empowerment. Our mission is rooted in our responsibility to build the capacity of underrepresented communities in initiating grassroots social change. We seek to use our resources and our histories to document authentic expressions of our past, present, and future.
HISTORY
First Voice Media is an Oakland-based, community-building organization which provides hands-on training in media arts and new technology. Our organization has been built on the legacy of the KPFA Apprenticeship Program, a 25-year old training program born out of the struggles of women and people of color to gain access to broadcast media production. We work in partnership with Pacifica community radio station KPFA 94.1FM and other community media outlets, both locally and nationally. We have recently expanded our programs to include digital storytelling projects, audio and video production, community events coverage, and online blogging. An interactive webportal featuring webcast, podcasts, RSS newsfeeds and community-created content is being developed. These new programs enable us to broaden our impact and increase our relevancy in this new era of social networking and emerging technology.

This website is a platform for constructive engagement about East Oakland. While we respect the complexities of community dynamics, we ask that discussions about specific interpersonal and internal organizational issues take place outside of this website.
It is great that there are such people who are not just doing their work but influense and change the life of the whole community they live in. Listening to the interview I recalled the film Take The Lead, here is the torrent you may download it http://bytesland.com/view/Take-The-Lead-2006-DvDrip-Eng-aXXo/2 . It is based on a true story and is one more example how a teacher of dances could change the youth. It is wonderful that there are such people. I wish there were more of them, and we met them in our life, too.
To my uncle Rosie,
Although we did not spend time really getting to know each other as we should. So that a bond could have been created beteen us as family. I am pleased to know that you were well repsected and loved by many.
Some say the true measure of a man is through how he is remebered and mourned by those he touched thoughout his life time. I believe this is best noted , not by the glory of his deeds but by how they are remebered and spoken of.
The tributes I have found throughout the internet speak well of you. Uncle Rosie. and you will be missed by many.
Allianyaha-Charlene Matthews and Ryian.
