EnCompass Academy and Acorn Woodland Elementary students witness the delivery of 30,000 new books and videos delivered to the new 81st Ave Branch Library

Our Oakland, with the Oakland Public Library and the Oakland Public Art Program, presented 'Stories Building Bridges' on Saturday, February 26th, 2011 at the brand new 81st Avenue Library in the heart of East Oakland at 81st and Rudsdale.

Ms. Cooper narrates her memories when she and her sisters attended the Acorn Woodland School in the 1960's.

Well, it makes me feel like not all of East Oakland is bad. It can help you get off the streets and keep you safe. I also think this image shows hard work, which can get you where you want to be in life.

The photo that I captured took place in the Eastmont parking lot. My image is about an 'Old building living in the new.' It relates to my community in East Oakland because it has been there over 50 years. It's a cemetery building so almost everybody in the community goes there.

This is a cool little photo of a girl's shadow. It looks interesting because you don't know who it is. But all you do know is that it's outside and it's sunny and it is a shadow. Also, it is a girl but you don't know who it is.

Even tho the streets of East Oakland seem dark at times, There is Always a ray of light that will shine and inspire Greatness. If you take the time to search for that Pot Of Gold You will come to find That East OAKLAND is A Beautiful Place to Live! In this picture are My children (Kahlil Age 9 N Po`Peion age 6) Pointing at the Rainbow over Havenscourt and Bancroft Ave, in East Oakland Saying, "See I Told You There is A Pot of Gold!"

Young artists at the Our Oakland booth at the CBE Love Yo Mama Earth Day Health Fair at ACORN Woodland Elementary and EnCompass Academy got creative and showed us their favorite healthy foods -- and gave out some admonitions for healthy eating too. Check out their creations!
