Education Oakland
In Oakland, we have teachers as qualified as, or even more qualified than, teachers in suburban schools. At Media Academy for example, we have teachers from Stanford, Harvard, Cal, Cal Poly, Notre Dame, and even Purdue University's School of Engineering. Our English teacher at Media Academy, Mr. Williams, for example, has a teaching style that I rarely have seen in my whole school experiece. He is one the few teachers who try to make the students learn a whole lot of suffixes, prefixes, and word roots. His class is challenging, and that is what makes the students try harder in his class. Ms. Totten-Harris, another English teacher, graduated from Harvard, and her teaching style is also challenging. She makes students do a lot of reading and she also gives a lot of projects that make you show the level of comprehension of the book you read. Ms. Ford, a Stanford graduate, teaches us Spanish. Her teaching style is a style that involves students in the class a lot so they can learn a new language faster. The teachers also are very friendly to the students, so even if they're having a bad day, they put a smile up. Our education is great, but the only reason why some people say it’s bad is because a few students don’t try hard enough to achieve. When some students don’t try, they lower the overall test grades of a school, and they show the state that we are a “bad” school. The education system we have makes Oakland a great place to live in , even though there are a few bad things that go on here such as the crime rate.
